Wang Fat Hostel Hong Kong

If you are on a budget and want to stay in one of the central parts of Hong Kong Island, the Wang Fat Hostel is one of your best options. Wang Fat Hostel does have some problems but nothing major and you are not likely to get better value.

Location & Getting There
Wang Fat Hostel is the center of Causeway Bay which is on the north shore of Hong Kong Island facing Victoria Harbour. It is a 5 minute walk from the subway and the major road running along the north shore of Hong Kong Island that has plenty of buses and Hong Kong's classic tram. Basically an ideal location.

Getting to Wang Fat Hostel from the airport is by train and bus from the airport are both easy. Buses E11 and A11 from the airport both at Yee Woo St stop which is a 5-6 minute walk from the hostel. The Airport train terminates at Central station and you can switch over to the MTR subway and get off at the Causeway Bay subway and take the E exit which is a 5 minute walk from the hostel.

If you have the dorm booked, you'll go to the hostel lobby on 47 Patterson St to book in then you'll be taken to another building on 55 Patterson St where the dorm is. Pretty strange but don't worry, it works out.

Rates, bookings and availability
Wang Fat Hostel is popular with backpackers so it is often booked out days in advance. If you want to stay there, best to book at least a week in advance.

The best deal for room rates is the basic 8 bed mixed dorm that has a base cost of HK$148 and tends to be more expensive on holidays and weekends. Twin private rooms are also very reasonably prices at HK$200 a person or HK$400 for the room.

Rooms & facilities
This is both good and bad. Normally in a dorm you would expect each bed to have it's own light and power point and for there to be only bunk beds. The 8 bed mixed dorm has only 3 power points and no individual lights for the beds. It also has three normal beds (not bunk) and two of them are adjacent.

Everything else is ok. There are secure lockers to leave your valuables, the wi-fi is good, there are two bathroom/toilet combinations that new and very good and it is kept very clean by daily maid service. One brilliant facility that most people never enjoy is the roof of the building. You can access the roof which is flat and safe, has great street views and ideal for relaxing at night, having meals and chilling out.

Staff
The hostel staff hostel are mainland Chinese from Guangdong province, have good English and are very helpful and friendly. They are also a good source of travel information in Hong Kong. They are not sympathetic though to complaints about the dorms so don't waste your time trying.
