Catch a glimpse of Hebei’s stunning Great Wall

"One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero," Mao Zedong once said. Perhaps those who do not see the Hebei section of the Great Wall will also regret it later in life. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage has recently released a report on the protection of the Great Wall. According to the report, the sections of the Great Wall total a distance of 21,196.18 kilometers, distributed throughout 404 counties, cities or regions in 15 provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities nationwide, such as Beijing, Hebei and Shaanxi. Hebei province in North China is a place where the Great Wall extends over 2,000 kilometers. Some of the most glorious and stunning Great Wall sections are located in Hebei. Catch a glimpse of them and you will remember it forever.  Jinshanling Great Wall  Jinshanling Great Wall, located in Luanping county, Chengde city. Jinshanling is the best preserved section of the Great Wall, with many original features. The earliest part of the wall was built in 1368, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). What was once used for defensive purposes has become a world famous location for photography enthusiasts, thanks to its magnificent views. Shanhaiguan Pass Shanhaiguan Pass is the first pass on the eastern section of the Great Wall, 15 kilometers northeast of the urban area of Qinhuangdao city. The building at the pass is 14 meters long and 7 meters thick; the top of the east wall is 15 meters wide, and can fit 10 people standing in a line. Jiumenkou Great Wall Jiumenkou Great Wall, the only section of the Great Wall that runs through water. It extends 1,704 meters in Funing county, Qinhuangdao city, among which the part that crosses water is around 100 meters. It got its name from the nine gates on the wall established for draining water. Laolongtou Great Wall Laolongtou Great Wall, the eastern end of the Great Wall, which extends to Bohai Sea. There is a tower at the end of the Great Wall, making it look like a dragon lying in the land, so it is called Laolongtou, which translates as "the head of a dragon". It started its construction during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Xifengkou Great Wall Xifengkou Great Wall. Located in Qianxi county of Tangshan city, a part of Xifengkou Great Wall lies in water. As the Panjiakou Reservoir finished construction in 1975, the rising water submerged the Great Wall. The underwater part is now faintly visible.
