Avenue of the Stars Hong Kong's Avenue fo the Stars If you are a Hong Kong movie fan and the likes of Chow Yun-fat, Andy Lau and Jet Li are synonymous with cool to you, then the Hong Kong Avenue of the Stars is a must see tourist attraction. I'm a self confessed Hong Kong movie geek who thinks the"God of Gambling" and "Shaolin Soccer" are classics and have a real soft spot for the kitschy Avenue of Stars. What is the Avenue of Stars? The Avenue of the Stars is a 440 meter section of a promenade on Tsim Sha Tsui water front that looks out onto Victoria harbor and has incredible views of Hong Kong Island. The 440 meters are full of commemorative plaques, statues and monuments of Hong Kong's actors/actresses, directors and members of Hong Kong's film industry. It is basically a copy of Hollywood's Walk of fame with (in my humble opinion) better actors/actresses and a fantastic harbor view. You can wander along the promenade checking out the plaques that are spaced every 2-3 meters looking for familiar names such as Stephen Chow, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and take photos of yourself next to life sized sculptures. Larger than life statue of Bruce Lee History The actual promenade was build in 1982 by the New World Group (enormous property development company). In 2003 New World Group announced it would spend HK$40 million to build the Avenue of the Stars and had the support (possibly paid for) of the following -Hong Kong Tourism Board -Tourism Commission -Leisure and Cultural Services Department -Hong Kong Government -Hong Kong Film Industry The Avenue of the Stars was opened on the 27th of April and had 73 inductees. A lot of business and political guests attended the opening but no film stars. The King of Comedy - Stephen Chow Getting There The two best ways to reach Hong Kong's Avenue of the Stars are: 1) Catch the MTR on the Tsuen Wan line and get off at the Tsim Sha Tsui station.  Take the F exit and head south till you reach the waterfront. The Avenue of the Stars will be a short walk to the east. 2) Catch the classic Hong Kong Star ferry from Central or Wanchai to Tsim Sha Tsui pier than enjoy a leisurely 10-15 minute walk east along the harbor Avenue of the Stars Map Hong Kong Avenue of the Stars Trivia -Inductees are elected by Hong Kong Film Awards Association and its member societies such as City Entertainment Magazine -Some plaques such as Chow Yun-fat's do not have hand imprints or signatures while others such as Andy Lau do.
