An exhibition of works by Wang Shiyi, 74, a noted calligrapher from Taiwan, will be opened at Beijing's Time Museum close to the historic Drum and Bell towers on Sept 3.
On display are some 60 scrolls celebrating his achievement in xingshu (running script) and caoshu (cursive style). The writings convey his attainment in literature and philosophy, especially his studies of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.
Born in East China's Jiangsu province, Wang moved to Taiwan at 7 with parents. He studied in Britain, Greece and France, and taught at Chinese Cultural University in Taipei. He relishes practicing calligraphy which he describes as the " Great Wall on paper".
The exhibition will end on Sept 12.
