Beginning on January 1, China's Forbidden City will now be closed on Mondays

This photo taken on Dec. 31, 2013 shows a bird's-eye view of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, will be closed every Monday from January 1, 2014

The Palace Museum will remain open during  public holidays and Mondays between July 1-August 31, the peak tourism season.
