Travel Toiletries Should Be in Everyone’s Hand Luggage

Most people put a lot of effort into planning their vacation – choosing a destination, picking the right hotel, getting cheap flights.

One thing people often overlook is hand baggage liquid restrictions, and the need for travel toiletries. If you're going on a short trip and you don't have any check-in baggage, you need to make sure that any toiletries you bring don't fall foul of the 100 ml/3 oz limit. Even if you are checking in baggage, what happens if your bag goes missing? It's no harm to have a few essentials in your carry-on bag as a backup plan.

With a little bit of forward planning, you can bring what you need while staying within the liquid restrictions. Many pharmacies stock miniature versions of common toiletry items in sizes of 100ml or less, across a variety of well-known brands. Even better, a lot of these can be ordered online and delivered right to you. Some stores even offer free delivery on orders above a certain amount.

So without leaving home, you can check whether the items you need are available in a suitable size, and order them for home delivery. If you're a regular traveller, it might be worth ordering enough for a few trips in order to being you over the free delivery threshold, if there is one. Even if there isn't, this will save you needing to put in an order next time and paying another delivery charge.

It's important to remember that even though individual items need to be below 100ml/3 oz, the total allowance for one person is 1000ml/1 quart. All your travel toiletries should be placed in a single resealable clear plastic bag – a freezer bag or large sandwich bag is ideal.

You should present this separately at airport security – pack it last, at the top of you carry-on bag so you can easily take it out. Some airports can be strict on this, and it can delay you going through security if you just leave it in your carry-on bag as it goes through the scanner.

It's only a small thing, but you want your trip to go as smoothly as possible, so by thinking ahead a little save yourself some trouble and order your travel toiletries online before your next vacation.
