Sichuan's Ruoergai Lake


Ruoergai county lies on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, locked in the north of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Covering a vast area of 10,620 square kilometers, it has an average altitude of 3500 meters and average annual temperature of 1.1 degree celsius.

The county has 12 ethnic groups, including Zang, Han, Hui, Qiang and so on, and Tibetans account for 91.5 percent of the population.

Ruoergai county features rich and unique tourism resources, including the First bay of the Yellow River, the largest plain in Sichuan province, the Blooming Lake, Spotted Deer Nature Reserve in Tiebu, Gers prairie and so on. In addition, it features the world's largest wetland peat plateau and China's most beautiful alpine wetland meadow. It is home to black-necked cranes and Kawa Mama, also called "Ruoergai on the horizon". Visitors can experience traditional Tibetan farming culture and religious culture here.
