Travel to Dongguan, China

One of the very often over-looked cities in southern China that is worth visiting is Dongguan. It has a history of over five thousand years. Those who are familiar with history would have read about the Opium War. It took place in a place called Humen, that is located within Dongguan. Therefore, when you visit this place, you need to visit the Humen Opium War battlefield as they are the most complete ancient battlefield in the world. Other than Humen, the city is also rich with ancient cultural sites that date back to the Ming and the Qing dynasties. One of the most famous place that you should visit is the Keyuan Garden. There are also plenty of temples that is of interest and these include the Jin'aozhou Pagoda and the Huangqi Ancient Temple dating back from the Song Dynasty. Both the seascape and the landscape of the city is mesmerizing, to say the least. The easiest way to get to the city of Dongguan is by flight. The nearest international airport is the Guangzhou airport. It is just over an hour drive away from the city. If you do not wish to land at Guangzhou airport, then you may land at Shenzhen airport instead. It is about the same distance from the city compared to Guangzhou airport, but it is closer to some other towns. If you do not wish to take a flight, then you may also board a train from Hong Kong. There is also frequent bus services from Shenzhen. The easiest way to get around the city is by flagging a taxi. Taxi fares are in general quite reasonable. The city has an exhibition center of international standard. The first thing that you should do when you reach the city is to purchase a copy of the "Here Dongguan" magazine, as it provides you with plenty of tips of how to move around the city.
