The "Happy Chinese New Year" gala, one of China's large cultural exchange activities, will go on shining on stages across the globe in 2018, said Yang Zhijin, deputy minister of the Ministry of Culture, at a press conference on Feb. 6. During the 2010 Spring Festival, the Ministry of Culture initiated the event together with other government departments, local cultural groups and agencies overseas to celebrate the festival and share the Chinese culture. As this year's Spring Festival draws near, celebration activities began to sweep the country and many countries across the world. Yang said the gala will continue delivering high-quality and diverse cultural activities this year, including performances, temple fairs, town square celebrations, campus parties, trading activities and food tastings. Yang said the gala will be staged at over 400 cities in over 130 countries, including 53 countries and regions along the Belt and Road route. The activities in New York, Ottawa, Helsinki, Buenos Aires, Cairo and Auckland has lasted for years and enjoyed tremendous popularity among the locals, he said. Yang said a key word for hosting the galas at overseas locations this year is "integration," meaning the integration between Chinese and local people, customs and culture, as well as between varies forms of new technologies. He said China will cooperate more with organizations overseas, invite more diversity into the activities, and engage more with foreign markets so that the galas will serve as a bridge between China and the world.
