Chinese tourists make 5.1 bln trips in 2017

(China Plus) Chinese tourists made five billion domestic trips and 129 million trips abroad in 2017, according to statistics unveiled at the annual tourism meeting last week in Xiamen.

It shows that each Chinese made 3.7 trips last year, spending 914 yuan (142 US dollars) for each domestic trip.

More women prefer travel than men, according to an annual tourism report by Ctrip, one of China's largest travel agencies, but men spend more than women. Women contributed 55% of the total tourism consumption in 2017, while men spend 3417 yuan for each trip, 250 yuan higher than women.

From the aspect o f age, those who were born in the 1990s spend the most on travel, and those born in the 1980s account for the largest part of the tourism market, said the Ctrip report.

Residents from Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Chengdu spent most on tourism last year.

Thailand gained around 100 billion yuan from Chinese tourists last year, ranking top among all destinations worldwide, followed by Japan, the United States and Indonesia.
