Huge sandalwood fan exhibited in Suzhou

The Suzhou Fan Museum opened to the public free of charge on Dec. 22. Located in a historic conservation area of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, this fan-themed museum offers a strong flavor of local life alongside unique cultural characteristics. Many of the works come from local illustrious families and well-known artisans, including Zhang Daqian, Pu Xinshe, Qian Songyan and Wu Zuoren. The great variety of beautiful fans on display is a feast for the eyes. Among the exhibits, a huge Buddhism-themed fan has particularly attracted the attention of many visitors. With a radius of 82 centimeters, it is a double-sided fan and each side has different contents – one is about Sakyamuni preaching to living beings while the other is about Guanyin liberating all living beings from the mortal world. Displaying numerous characters and grand scenes, the artwork has become the largest sandalwood fan in the country.
