Expenditure of China's business travelers expected to rise to $345 billion in 2017: agency

(Shanghai Daily) The expenditure of China's business travelers is expected to reach US$345 billion in 2017, an 8.4 percent increase on year, according to HRS, the world's major business travel management firm.

The total expenditure will surpass that of United States by 18 percent to make China remain world's biggest and fastest growing corporate travel market.

The growth r ate is partly stimulated by the increasing number of startup enterprises nationwide in the wake of the "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" national strategy. Shanghai, a pioneering city for the mass entrepreneurship policy, remains China's biggest business travel market, followed by Beijing and Guangzhou, according to the German hotel-booking giant.

To better serve the domestic market, the Nasdaq-listed chain launched a new brand image in Shanghai today along with a batch of new services for corporations, including hotel price negotiation, meeting arrangement and cost analysis, said Kimi Jiang, vice president of HRS Asia Pacific.

With these new services, the cost for corporate travelling can be cut by 9 percent, which means over US$29 billion for the global business travelling market, said Shi Nanfei, general manager of HRS China.

Currently, major Chinese online travel agencies including Ctrip and Alitrip have announced to enter the corpor ate travel market.
