Chinese are the second largest tourists visiting New York


(CRI) The New York government announced on Monday that it reached than 60 million tourists at once for the first time. Of this number one million people were Chinese, the second largest amount of tourists from a single country.

Data of New York tourism authority showed that until the end of the year, about 60.3 million tourists were predicted visit New York, with 12.7 million of them not from the US.

The both numbers have broken historical records. The amount of Chinese tourists visting were predicted at 958 thousand.

Chinese would replace British tourists as the largest amount travellers to New York in 2022, said Fred Dixon, chief executive of NYC & Company, the official destination marketing organization for the five boroughs of New York City.

Hornblower, A California based travel company, carried about 300 thousand Chinese to America, accounting for about one-quarter of its avenue, said Xie ZiChao, international sightseeing manager of the company.

Chinese travellers still travel mostly in groups, moving around on chartered buses, said Xie. Dixon said his organization had begun to focus on attracting more Chinese tourists traveling on their own or in small groups.

"That individual travel market is the biggest opportunity," said Dixon, "that's the future of the Chinese market."

2016 is the Sino-Us Tourism Year. The both countries have give each other multiple visas for ten years.
