Popular spots in China to photograph seas of clouds

A sea of clouds generally forms at high altitudes where the weather changes. Photographers with heavy equipment have to climb to the mountaintop, work from dawn to night and even camp there in order to capture the beautiful scenery.

If you are also planning a photography trip, don't miss these seven popular spots to shoot seas of clouds.

1 Cattle Back Mountain
Cattle Back Mountain is known as a favourite shooting spot for photographers. While not really a tourist attraction due to a lack of convenient transportation and tourist facilities, it could be the ultimate destination for a photography trip. Standing on the ridge, you will find yourself surrounded by snow-capped mountains and cloud waterfalls at your feet.

2 Mount Emei
Mount Emei is famous as one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China. Tourists can reach the golden summit easily via the cable car to enjoy Mount Emei's four great spectacles: the sunrise, the sea of clouds, the Buddha's halo and the vigil light. Besides the sea of clouds the Buddhist relics and natural landscape are also worth shooting.

3 Huangshan
The picturesque landscape of Huangshan makes it known as 'the most spectacular mountain in the world. As the weather will be foggy for nearly 200 days a year, the sea of clouds can be viewed all seasons, but especially in winter. A unique granite landscape with jagged peaks, oddly shaped rocks and twisting pine trees can be glimpsed through the cloud sea.

4 Zhangjiajie
The world of the 2009 film Avatar was not entirely fantasy, but based on Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The karst pillars towering above the cloud sea make the whole place feel magic and surreal, but the best spots to shoot the include Tianmen Mountain and the Tianzi Mountain aerial tramway.

5 Yuanyang Terrace
Unlike the previous spots, the Yunyang Rice Terraces are man-made. Nevertheless, the way the over-1300-year-old artificial landscape melds with the natural surroundings inspires awe . The place always presents new perspectives to capture with its shifting lights and shadows.

6 Jiankou Great Wall
Located in Huairou County in Beijing, the Jiankou section of the Great Wall was built along broken ridges and steep cliffs that make it harder to reach than other sections, yet more spectacular. The section zigzags 20 kilometers and is popular among photographers for its strategic location and wild scenery.

7 Mount Lao
With its highest peak reaching 1133 meters, Mount Lao is the highest coastal mountain in China. The sea of clouds around Mount Lao is also very close to both the neighboring city and seaside.
