The Ruoergai Grassland, one of the world's largest grasslands, is located in northern Sichuan and borders the southern boundary of the upper reaches of the basin. It is home to many Tibetan nomads who live in tent encampments and herd yaks. The grassland is also home to a wetland of international significance and dozens of species of nesting birds, including rare species of cranes, eagles and vultures.
