Shorter entry time for foreign visitors to Shanghai

(CRI) Stickers are used to shorten entry time for foreigners who enjoy the 144-hour visa-free transit policy.

Foreign passengers will enjoy a much shorter entry clearance processing time at Shanghai's port of entry starting from Saturday.

The city is using a new sticker inside visitors' passports as temporary entry permits for foreigners to enjoy a 144-hour visa-free transit policy from October 15, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection said.

Under the new regulation, the inspectors will instead paste stickers on blank pages of passengers' passports when they arrive and stamp an exit seal when they depart.

The stickers will be printed automatically with a QR code containing all the information of the passenger, which would be convenient for local service providers, such as hotels and travel agencies, to identify a foreign traveler's information.

The stickers are specially designed with anti-counterfeiting measures to improve security.

Immigration inspectors currently stamp the entry seal on the passengers' passports and hand write the dates of entry.

Apart from Shanghai, airports in Nanjing and Hangzhou, the capital cities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces respectively, will also use the stickers.
