National Palace Museum of Taipei removes replica sculptures donated by Jackie Chan

The National Palace Museum of Taipei announced on Thursday that they will remove the replica sculptures of the 12 zodiac signs currently displayed at the entrance of Chiayi south area. The sculptures of the 12 zodiac signs were contributed to the National Palace Museum of Taipei by the famous Chinese movie star Jackie Chan.

Lin Zhengyi, the president of the National Palace Museum of Taipei said the decision was made after discussion with professionals from different fields, including arts, collection, construction, literature and history, and the local residents.

As the sculptures were not an original artwork, the museum decided to remove them from the entrance.

Emma, Jackie Chan's agent, responded on Thursday saying that Jackie Chan respects the decision of the National Palace Museum of Taipei.

Emma pointed out the when Jackie Chan gave the replicas to the museum, he aimed to "respect civilization and protect culture". Since the museum has taken a different attitude towards the sculptures, he understands and respects the decision.

Jackie Chan also contributed the same replicas to Asian Civilizations Museum of Singapore.

What will happen to the replicas after their removal will be discussed in a conference in Taipei.
