The Grand Buddha of Mt. Xumi in Ningxia


At 20.6 meters tall, the Grand Buddha of Mt. Xumi in Guyuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is the largest grotto sculpture in these mountains. Built during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907), the sculpture is one of many carved into the caves at Mt. Xumi, which is located at a vital pass on the eastern section of the ancient Silk Road and is famous for its Buddha Grottoes.
