Classical Chinese garden in Nanjing

Zhanyuan Garden is in the south of Nanjing City. It is a well-preserved classical garden buildings of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) in Nanjing.

Zhanyuan, together with Nanjing Yuyuan Garden, Wuxi Jichang Garden, Suzhou Humble Administrator's Garden and Lingering Garden, are the Five Famous Gardens of Jiangnan (south of lower reaches of the Yangtze River). The repair work of Zhanyuan Garden began in 1958.

The enlarged garden was the combination of both East Zhanyuan Garden and West Zhanyuan Garden. It kept the style of gardens of the Ming and the Qing (1644 - 1911) dynasties and at the same time it brought the essence of the art of modern garden building to it, forming a distinctive characteristic.
