7-day classic tour route in Zhejiang


Day 1: West Lake in Hangzhou Considered one of the most beautiful sights in China, West Lake in Hangzhou has been inspiring famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th century. Three Pools Mirroring the Moon is a must-visit spot if you take a boat cruise, which is a great way to enjoy a leisurely time on the peaceful lake and see the mountains, bridges, and pagodas from across the water.

Transport:Visitors can easily find bus routes to the lake from Hangzhou Railway Station, Huanglong Sports Center, Wulin Square or East Railway Station. Key stops around the lake include Su Di, Ling Yin, Duan Qiao and Xihu Dadao Stations.

Ticket prices: West Lake is a large open lake area encompassing many scenic spots, some of which charge admission fees (Leifeng Pagoda: 40 yuan; Three Pools Mirroring the Moon: 20 yuan.)

Best time to visit: spring (March-May) Opening Hours:all day

Day 2: Tianyi Pavilion Library First built in 1561 in the Ming Dynasty, Tianyi Pavilion is the oldest library in Asia, and one of the three largest private libraries in the world. It has now become a museum that is home to a large collection of about 300,000 ancient books, among which are 80,000 rare texts.

Transport:The Tianyi Pavilion is located on the west side of Yuehu Lake in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Visitors can get there by taking bus No. 371 or No. 512 and getting off at Tianyige station.

Ticket Prices:30 yuan

Opening hours:8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Day 3: Mount Putuo

Mount Putuo, located in the East China Sea, is a testament to the timeless beauty of mountains and oceans. Along with Mount Emei in Sichuan, Mount Wutai in Shanxi and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui, it is one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism.

Transport:Putuo Island can be reached by boat from Shanghai or Ningbo.

Ticket Price:160 yuan (Feb- Nov.);140 yuan (Dec-Jan.).

Opening Hours:all day.

Day 4: Located in Yueqing County of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, Yandang Mountain is one of the China's top ten must-see mountains. Famous for its magnificent peaks, waterfalls and caves, it was named a World Geopark by UNESCO in 2005.

Tips:'Flying person' performance shows every afternoon at 3 p.m. The Spiritual Peaks are even more dazzling at night, don't miss it!

Transport:Take a tourist bus at Wenzhou New South Station and get off at Yandang Town (Ticket price: 27 yuan).

Ticket Prices:The Spiritual Peaks: 50 yuan; The Spiritual Rocks: 50 yuan; The Big Dragon Waterfall: 50 yuan.

Day 5: Yunhe Rice Terraces

The Yunhe Terraces are the largest terraced fields in central China. Travelers to the terraces encounter ancient villages amid bamboo forests, streams and waterfalls. The area has more than 1000 years of history, dating back to the early Tang Dynasty.

Transport:Take a bus from Yunhe County in the city of Lishui to Zhangjiadi. Buses run every hour from 6:30 to 17:00.

Best time to visit:May and June

Day 6: Qiandao Lake

Thousand Islets Lake, or Qiandao Lake, is a beautiful man-made lake dotted with 1,078 islands of various sizes. The lake was formed after the construction of the Xin'an River hydroelectric station. 

You may not know that there are two 2,000-year-old villages lying underneath the lake, which are perhaps more interesting and worthy of a visit than the lake itself.

Ticket Prices:150 yuan (Mar. 1- Nov. 30); 120 yuan (Dec. 1- Feb. 28)

Day 7: Xitang Ancient Town

Known as one of the top six ancient towns in southern China, Xitang has a gentle climate, floating rills and a slow-paced lifestyle. Nine rivers converge in the town, dividing it into 8 sections that are linked together by 27 ancient bridges. The town is at its best as night falls or morning dawns.

Transport:First head to Jiashan County and then transfer to the town of Xiyang by bus, which takes about 20 minutes.

Best time to visit:March and April
