Migrant Workers Start Annual Trip Home on Motorcycles

(CRI) Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers in south China's Pearl River Delta cities have started their annual journey back home by motorcycle for the Spring Festival.

Every year when the Spring Festival is drawing near, these migrant workers begin their journey by motorcycle from south China's Guangdong Province, and then pass through Hezhou City, Wuzhou City and Yulin City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, until they finally arrive at their hometowns in Guangxi region, Hunan province, Guizhou Province and Yunnan Province.

An official from Wuzhou City's Public Security Bureau said this year, the number of motorcycle trips by migrant workers who head home for family reunions will decrease slightly to 300,000, due to the opening of Guiyang-Guangzhou and Nanning-Guangzhou high-speed railways.

To guarantee a safe journey for motorcyclists returning home, Wuzhou City will set up eight service stations along the expressways from February 4 to the end of this year's Spring Festival travel rush.

Free medical treatment, food, and gifts will be offered at the service stations. Motorcycle maintenance stations can be found at the service stops as well.

Although returning home by motorcycle can take travelers up to ten hours or more, the low cost is the main reason why many migrant workers choose this means of transport.
