Should the NYC Mass Transit Aka MTA Offer Adopt A Car? Would Marketing The Thought Help?

Maybe if the MTA can somehow think of a way to sell a car or offer a name for sale for individual cars on their trains they could raise more money from individuals who have the funds to spend, rather than demand it from the less fortunate who are barely making it. The people or companies willing to adopt the car would also gain by the marketing of their names on the cars permanently.

New York City's mass transit continues to go up, and I'm not speaking of any additional tracks being laid uptown or downtown. Can you remember what it cost to ride the city's subway or bus system in 1980, what about '90? Most of us can't, though it would probably make us mad if we actually recalled the 35, 50, or 90 cents we once paid and complained about at the time.

It even seems like the service was better; the subway trains and buses cleaner, more bus routes, express service during rush-hour and better off-hour service, though that's probably just wishful thinking. With so few private bus companies and no competition at all, where the trains are concerned, you think that the MTA would make a profit as opposed to having to be subsidized with state and federal tax money especially during a time of recession and so many layoffs. It's like paying twice for the riders: pay to ride, then pay with your taxed dollars to keep the system going and the price from going up, which continues to happen anyway. Someone has to figure out a better and more permanent way to raise funds not at the expense of the lower and middle class people.

With a monopoly on public transportation or just about one, why is it impossible for MTA to make money? Either poor management or poor marketing, or perhaps both are the cause. Whatever it is, poor service and higher cost are the results. With the correct organizational plans, cost-cutting measurements and marketing creativity mass transit could produce massive cash flow; after all, they don't take credit; in fact, you have to pay up front. What better deal could any one company ask for when operating a business.
