Why Could a Flight Be Delayed Or Canceled?

I often take flights to China. Year after year, I learn much knowledge about flights. A plane usually takes off and arrives on time, but some reasons can cause a flight's delay or cancellation. The reasons are mainly as follow:

1. Bad weather. If the weather around airport is bad, for example, fog, rainstorm, heavy snow and sand storm and so on, and the visibility don't reach the standard, then a plane can't take off or land; if the snow or ice on the runway has not been cleared away, a plane can't take off or land.

2. The plane. If a plane's failure can't be eliminate timely, a flight has to be delayed or canceled; sometimes if there is fewer planes on operation, it will affect the normal flights.

3. The limit of airport facility or plane's equipment. Under the same weather condition, some airports permit some planes with advanced equipment to take off or land, but some other airports or planes can't.

4. The security job to ensure safety of a flight. For example, flight control, communication and navigation, security check, weather guarantee and so on. No matter which one of these is not done well, a flight will be affected.

5. Passenger. If there is a passenger who can't board timely and he has consigned his luggage, the plane can't take off before this luggage is taken out of the plane; if there is a passenger who has something to deal with temporarily, the flight will be affected.

Besides, under the situation of war, riot and natural disaster, a flight could be delayed or canceled. On above reasons, some are problem on carrier, so the carrier should try to create conditions to solve these problems; some are caused by passenger, so the passenger should give assistance to solve this problem; others are hard to be avoided.
