Safety Tips While Using Hotel Safe

Hotel safes are very convenient for travelers carrying valuables with them. Most large hotels have a safe in which guests can place their personal belongings if they wish to, at a nominal charge. However, there is always the likelihood of unscrupulous hotel employees who have a master key to open the safe and tamper with your valuables. To prevent this from happening, first do a background check on the hotel you are going to visit. Read reviews written by people who have lived there, and if possible get in touch with them. Find out more about the services the hotel offers, and the quality of service.

Then, call up the hotel you want to stay in and find out about what kind of safe they have. If they will let you know the brand and model number, you can look it up on the internet and learn about its features and specifications. Ensure that the hotel's safe has an electronic lock, with the provision for 6-8 digit security codes. If the safe can be opened by a manual override using some sort of key, be on your guard. It is possible for employees to open up the safe and get their hands on your belongings.

Hotels that provide individual safes for guests are the best. If you can get a separate safe for yourself that opens only for you (using your room key, or in some rare cases, biometric locks), then you can be sure that your belongings will be safe.
