Two hundred people are stranded on the west peak of Mount Huashan in west China's Shaanxi province, after a strong gale yesterday caused the tram service to the mountain to stop operating.
The resort management company said the suspension was due to the gale which traveled as fast as 25 meters per second.
Authorities hope to resume tram services as soon as possible, and said the stranded tourists have taken shelter in the tram station, and currently have water and food.
Mount Huashan is located near the city of Huayin in Shannxi province, about 120 kilometers east of Xi'an, and has a long history and religious significance.
The mountain known as 'the number one precipitous mountain under heaven', is famous for its hiking trails which are considered some of the world's most dangerous.
