(Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is reviewing Marriott International's merger with Starwood Hotels and Resorts and has promised "a just decision."
"The aim of the review is to assess whether the consolidation will break any rules concerning competition in China," MOC spokesperson Shen Danyang told a news briefing on Friday.
China began the review on April 11 and extended the process to Oct. 7. Shen said, adding that the related markets were quite complicated.
Marriott and Starwood have already received regulatory clearance from more than 40 countries. The MOC is the only remaining clearance required before the transaction may close.
