(CRI) The Palace museum or the Forbidden City will start real name registration for issuing tickets from June 13 and all visitors are advised to carry their ID cards with them.
Chinese nationals are expected to carry their second generation ID cards with their finger print information embedded in it.
Foreigners and residents of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau are expected to carry their passports for verification before a ticket is issued.
The new move for real name registration comes in alongside the new daily limit on the number of visitors who can be admitted into this popular historic landmark. The Beijing municipal government earlier announced that the total number of visitors per day will be limited to 80,000 people. The new rules will come into effect on June 13 and it coincides with the national Chinese cultural heritage day.
Travel agencies must now pre-book their tickets online. Individual visitors can also book tickets online.
However, the online booking rate is still low and many visitors are still queuing up outside the ticket counters.
But now, with the requirement for real name registration before buying tickets over the counter, people will have to wait longer, until their ID cards or passports are scanned.
The administration of the museum is urging the public to pre-book their tickets online so that they can predict and manage the crowds easily and also make the ticketing process more efficient.
