(Want China Times) China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest carrier, announced Thursday that it will hire 400 new flight attendants later this year.
The airline said it is now accepting applications to fill positions for 400 flight attendants–300 Taiwanese nationals, 48 Thai nationals and 48 Japanese nationals–as it prepares to expand its destinations in Thailand and Japan.
The evaluation process will begin in late March and the selected applicants will be offered a starting salary of NT$50,000 (US$1,590) per month, including allowances, CAL said.
The airline, which is the most popular choice among jobseekers in Taiwan's aviation industry, last year held five recruitment drives that each attracted about 6,000 applicants.
With the addition of its 400 new recruits this year, CAL's flight attendant staff is expected to total 3,500 by mid-2015.
Earlier this month, EVA Airways, another of Taiwan's leading international carriers, said it will hire 500 new employees this year as part of a plan to expand capacity and increase its number of destinations.
EVA said it is accepting applications for the openings of 400 flight attendants and 100 new ground service and office staff, including financial and computer experts, who will all begin work between June and August.
