Chinese Tourism – An Overview

China is a land of rich cultural tradition, turbulent history, Confucius philosophy, martial arts, chopsticks and festivals. Chinese tourism is exciting, enthralling and intriguing because the land is also a platform of co-existing contrasts. The Chinese government is working towards improving the tourism industry by upholding the rich Chinese culture and the glorious past to the other part of the world. The government has implemented several policies with regard to making the tourism industry one of the major industries in Chinese economy.

China is attracting millions of tourists every year. Thanks to the improved infrastructure and to the 23 World Heritage Sites, that gives the tourism industry a great opportunity to grow in leaps and bounds. Beijing, one of the largest cities of China is the storehouse of Chinese history. Nanjing, Xi'an and Anyang are also famous for the historically significant relics. The ruins of ancient Chinese culture, tradition and history can be found in these cities. Other famous tourist attractions include The Great Wall, Three Gorges, Limetone caves and the Stone Forest.

Festivals are an integral part of Chinese tourism. They have around 40 festivals a year organized by different ethnic groups. Their song, dance, painting and calligraphy festivals are world renowned. China is extremely well connected with a network of highways with an overall mileage of 1.18 million kilometers. The airports provide world class facilities and so also the railway system. Special tourist trains are provided by the transport department during the peak season. China has excellent facilities for water transportation as well. This has given an added boost to the tourism industry.

Since China has emerged as one of the most sought-after tourist locations, hotels have developed very quickly all around the nation. At present China has 3700 hotels all providing top of the line facilities to the guests. China is also famous as a shopping destination. Silk items, ceramic products, fans, folk culture inspired art and crafts are the top rated saleable items in China. The distinct flavor of the exotic Chinese cuisine has also contributed in the development of the tourism industry of this nation.
