A map of the ferry routes - click to enlarge Back Ground & History The Star Ferry began back in 1888 when a Parsee cook Naorojee Mithaiwala operated a regular service between Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong Island with his steam boat the Morning Star. He was bought out in 1898 and the new company was called the Star Ferry Company. The Star Ferry Company now has a fleet of nine ships that operates two routes between Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong Island. One route is from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wanchai next to the enormous Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The other route is from Tsim Sha Tsui to the new Central Pier No.7 in Central. Despite being over a hundred years old, the Star Ferry is still one of the main ways for commuters to travel between Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong. In 2011 the Star Ferry had 26 million passengers a year which comes down to 70,000 a day.
