All About Bachmann Model Trains

For over forty years, Bachmann model trains have built locomotives and trains in various sizes and price ranges. Their products are considered to be among the best by many die-hard railroading enthusiasts. You can find them at every store that carries model train products in the United Kingdom, Germany, China, and the United States. These trains are also available at almost every railroading e-store on the internet.

So what makes Bachmann trains special? Since 1966, they have been selling model trains and locomotives. Initially they produced the N scale and then expanded to include HO, O, On30, and the larger scale trains. In addition to trains, the company continues to make the scenery items that made them famous before they entered the model train market.

Bachmann Industries is an official licensee of the Central and Southern Railroad Corporation (CSX), and has the authority to use their trademarks. The company is also licensed under similar authority for the Union Pacific Railroad Company and its sister companies, the Southern Pacific and the Western Pacific.

Bachmann has long been known for its quality and value. The large-scale trains are in the 1:20.3 scale, and their cost normally falls under $400. The Wonderland Flyer is the most expensive large sized train and is priced around $500.

The cost of their N scale trains range between $100 and $500. The Ocela Express is the most expensive, fashioned after the Amtrak high-speed train that revolutionized modern train travel. The N scale has been the "bread and butter" of Bachmann trains since their inception, and it remains one of the most popular sized model trains throughout the world.

The Cavalier is the most expensive offering in the HO scale train. The Ocela follows it closely in cost. The Cavalier is a replica of the Norfolk & Western line of the 1980′s and 1990′s. It was a coal hauling train that ran between Cleveland, Ohio and Norfolk, Virginia.

All of Bachmann's trains come DCC equipped and have both interior and exterior lighting. Most train sets come with instructional DVD's showing how to assemble the miscellaneous components. The On30 scale is limited to only one type of train at the present time.

In 2007, Bachmann bought the Williams Trains line. This was known as a vintage model railroad line that was founded in 1971 by Jerry Williams. He acquired some original tooling from the original Lionel Trains after the buyout by General Mills.

Williams Trains was the only model train company that refused to use DCC on their products. This had been a draw for the more traditional train enthusiasts, but it ended up costing the company revenue because of changing attitudes.

Bachmann continues to make scenery items for HO, O, and N scale trains. Items include people, trees, ground covers, foliage, gravel, turf, and grass mats. If you are seeking one of the three scales they sell, Bachmann Model Trains is a great choice for your next train set.
