The park was originally a country ho use belonging to Xu Da, one of the founding fathers of the Ming Dynasty. The Nanjing government rebuilt it into the "Bailuzhou Park" (or Egret Island Park) in 1929, and it is now is a mixture of natural scenery and markets for various cultural products.
