First ever displays of Vatican art in China

The Museums of the Pope have organised art displays in China together with local partners.

The displays, which will start in Beijing's Forbidden City and then move to Shanghai and other Chinese cities, will represent the first time that art from the collections of the Vatican Museums has been displayed in China.

Starting in March next year, the Vatican Museums will also host some 40 pieces loaned from Chinese organisations in what's being termed a partnership of 'common identity and friendship.'

2017 has seen a number of cultural tie-ups between Chinese and European cultural organisations.

For example, in August, we reported that London's Victoria and Albert (V&A) museum had teamed-up with a design centre in Shenzhen.

The new design hub in Shenzhen is part of Sea World Culture and Art Center.

The V&A have been involved in the project in an advisory capacity. The new facility is set to include a permanent V&A gallery featuring a rotating selection from their UK collection.

According to the gallery:

''This project is part of an innovative collaboration between the V&A and China Merchants Shekou Holdings (CMSK) to establish a museum that will form the non-profit component of Design Society, a new cultural platform in Shenzhen.''
