Having a history of more than 1000 years, the Daxu Old Town is known for one of the four ancient big towns of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. Located on shore of the Li River, 23km (14.3 miles) southeast of Guilin, Daxu Old Town offers visitors charming pastoral scenery. The old residences, the stone-paved street, the time-worn Longevity Bridge and the century-old dock are recorded the legend of the old town.

Many local residents still keep their old business in ancient Guilin, such as home workshops of rice wine, noodle-making, bamboo baskets, carpenters and Chinese drug store. Paying a visit to a local resident's home, you will appreciate the wooden architecture with colorfully decorated eaves, elegantly carved doors and windows.

Discover Guilin's Hidden Gem – the Ling Canal, one of the oldest Canals in the world

The Ling Canal is located in Xingan County, 66 kilometers north of the city of Guilin. There was a Chinese saying 'In the north there was a Great wall, in the south there was a Ling Canal'.

The highlight of the canal is its elegant designed ploughshare, also called Hua Zui, in the shape of a ploughshare. The ploughshare divides the water of the Hai Yang River into two parts, 30 percent running into the Li River through the South Channel and 70 percent into the Xiang Jiang through the North Channel.

Touring the Ling Canal, you will be fascinated to view such a scientifically designed canal in such complicated terrain more than 2,000 years ago.

Take a night cruise on the Four Inner Lakes to taste local people's idyllic life

The four inner lakes refer to Mulong Lake, Gui Lake, Rong Lake and Shan Lake, which are located in the downtown of city. There are various bridges over lakes, all kinds of plants and pavilions on the banks. At night, under the colorful neon lights, the natural beauty of landscape turns into a galaxy of ecological harmony between man and nature. The 1 hour cruise on the Four Inner Lakes is a romantic and idyllic trip through most spectacular night views of Guilin city. Along the way, you can enjoy Chinese music and have a chance to see cormorant fishing, a traditional Chinese way to catch fish.
